Sometimes it seems people get the idea that saving money is difficult or overwhelming. However, saving money can be extremely easy to do. Today I’m sharing a few simple ways to save a little money for yourself. One is a way to get more money into your savings account, and the others are ways to save money while you’re shopping, which you can then add to your savings.
Some links below are affiliates. So if you make a purchase using my link, I’ll receive a small commission at no cost to you.
Automate your savings
Have your checking and savings accounts connected so it’s easy to transfer money into your saving (just exercise control and don’t transfer it back to checking all the time!). If your paycheck is direct deposited, set it up that part of your check will go to your savings account that way it’s never “spendable” in the first place. Whether it’s 50 dollars, 100, whatever, decide an amount that seems manageable to you and pay that to yourself first! You’ll get to the point that you don’t even notice the money is “missing” from your paycheck and you’ll grow a nice little nest egg without even trying.
The Target RedCard
I don’t hide the fact that I love Target. I can remember being a young kid and always wanting to go there. It’s just the best. So why wouldn’t I want to save money when I’m going to be there all the time already? Target offers their RedCard in both credit and debit card forms. I would personally recommend the debit card, that way you’re only spending the money you have and not creating any debt for yourself. The RedCard will save you 5% on every purchase. You can combine this with other offers like Cartwheel on the Target app and any online sales or coupon codes so you can save even more! Bonus: if you’re an online shopper you get free shipping with the RedCard! I hate paying for shipping so I’m all about this.
Ebates
I used to forget about Ebates a lot of the time, because I would go to a website to shop and forget to go to Ebates first to set up the cash back. Now they have a browser extension that makes it SO EASY to get cash back deals. Whenever you go to a site, if they offer Ebates cash back, a notification will pop up. I can activate the cash back when I first click onto a website or wait until i’m checking out. Ebates cash back deals can range a lot but typically seem to be in the 1-4% range. Sometimes though, they will have times where stores offer higher cash back rates (sometimes 10%!) and the browser extension will notify you of this too! Ebates will also try any coupon codes available for the site to save you even more! If you aren’t already using Ebates, you can sign up using my referral and get an extra $10 cash back when you spend $25!
Things to remember
If you really want to save money, only buy the thing you actually need. I think sometimes we can get fooled into buying more if we’re getting a discount, but that will only lead to spending more in the end. If you stick to what you need, your savings and cash back will add up and you’ll find yourself with a little extra money at the end of the month! Who doesn’t want that?
