While on the way home from Walt Disney World (we drove) we decided to make a short stop in Nashville. More and more I keep hearing how great of a travel destination Nashville is. Funnily enough, its only about a 4-5 hour drive for me, but I had never visited before.
After doing some research (thanks Instagram), I thought a great area to go to would be Nashville’s 12 South neighborhood.
Nashville’s 12 South neighborhood is a great place to go if you want to find fun shopping and a plethora of murals. We were there too early on a Sunday morning so we didn’t get to do any shopping, but I had to take advantage of the empty street to take mural photos.
12 South is also home to Five Daughter’s Bakery, where we started our little adventure.
Five Daughters Bakery
Five Daughters Bakery is a bit instagram famous, and for good reason. I had seen photos of their cute shop and fabulous looking doughnuts a while back. I made a mental note to visit here if I was ever in the area.
Five Daughter’s is known for their 100 layer doughnuts, basically a “cronut”. It comes in several flavors and I opted for the maple one. Guys, I still dream of this doughnut. Granted its only been a couple of weeks since I had it but I think it’s going to be something I crave until I get to have one again.
The doughnut is very rich in flavor. I was surprised to find it was also cream filled.
Nashville 12 South Murals
Nashville as a whole is pretty famous for all of the wall murals around town. Taylor Swift even commissioned one to promote her song ME! The 12 South neighborhood is a great place to go for some fun instagram wall photos because everything is in close proximity.
I’ve actually heard some of the murals in 12 South end up with lines to take pictures by them. We were there between 9 and 10 on a Sunday morning and no one was really around, save for a few people walking their dogs. The shops in the area don’t open until noon on Sunday so this is probably why. This might be something to keep in mind if you want easy access to fun murals!
Draper James is a clothing store owned by Reese Witherspoon. There are a few locations throughout the country with one being right in 12 South. This was probably the place I was most disappointed wasn’t open.
Draper James has a cute window display with a bench underneath that is great for photos. What you have probably seen most though is the blue and white striped wall. Both the window and the wall are just around the corner from the front of the store.
I Believe in Nashville mural
I’ve heard a few of these murals exist around the city, but why run all around town when this one is right in the 12 South neighborhood? You can actually find this one directly across from the Draper James mural!
Madewell/Music City Mural
I really haven’t seen this wall posted much on social media, but I was happy to find it. This wall might be my favorite of the bunch! Just across and down the street from the other two murals is a Madewell store. Around the side of Madewell? You guessed it, is this mural.

Have you been to Nashville before? I’m actually planning a real trip back there and you can believe 12 South is on my list of things to do!
