How to Streamline your Morning Routine

Make getting ready quick and easy

I get it. You slept in. Now you’re rushing around trying to get ready as fast as you can for work and stumble out the door with just enough time to only be five minutes late. Or maybe you want to do more in your mornings besides just get ready. You want time to sip your coffee and read a blog. You want to get some of your daily cleaning done before work so you come home to a tidy house. You need to streamline your morning routine.

So what is a streamlined morning routine?

A streamlined morning routine is one where you can do all of your essential getting ready tasks done in a short amount of time. It’s using techniques that make getting ready easier and doing some things at a different time.

Plan ahead

What can you do the night before? I tend to shower at night, so that helps streamline my morning routine a lot. I know not everyone likes to do this, so maybe there’s something else you can do the night before. Try picking out your clothes ahead of time, packing your lunch, or even fix your hair in a style that will last until the next day (try tight curls that will loosen into pretty waves overnight).

Have your essentials handy

I typically start my mornings by washing my face, brushing my teeth, and then applying my moisturizer. All of the products I need are right by my sink and easily accessible. This is probably the case for most of you, but I know there are people out there with beauty cabinets or under the sink spaces full of products. Make sure the stuff you need is easy to grab and put back.

The same goes for makeup. I have a couple of drawers that I keep my makeup products in and I make sure my everyday stuff is at the front.

Know your essentials

I have a full post on my everyday makeup routine, but when I’m in a rush (which is a lot of the time) I wear only the makeup products I feel like are essential. For me is all about having nice bright skin, so my foundation, pressed powder, blush, and a lip color are my essentials. If I have an extra minute I’ll throw on mascara or highlighter too.

I also try to use products that I can easily blend with my fingers or a blending sponge, as this seems to go faster than using brushes.

My essential products

A liquid foundation: The L’oreal Infallible Pro-Glow foundation is good because it isn’t matte. Matte foundations can get cakey and require extra blending. This foundation is long-wearing and gives a medium coverage.

A pressed powder: I’ve used the L’oreal True Match Powder for years now. I like it because, although it’s not a powder foundation is does give a little extra coverage which helps me be able to skip concealer.

A cream blush: I use Glossier Cloud Paint (read more about it here). This blush is so easy to blend and gives a grime within glow. I do apply this before my powder and only lightly powder my cheeks.

A lip color: this varies day to day depending on what I’m wearing. Usually a regular lipstick or liquid lipstick. I like to a have a bit of a color to help brighten up my face. I really like the NYX Powder Puff Lippies shown here.

I find that I’m most organized and relaxed when I prepare items at night before bed. Of course I should do this every night, but…. 🙂 Thanks for this reminder.

Thanks for reading! I should probably do better with planning the night before but I just cleaned my closet and that’s helped my morning routine go a lot faster too!
