How to shop at J Crew on a budget

Sharing is caring!

J Crew has such fun classic pieces, but it can get pricy. Here are ways to save tons off the original price and shop J Crew on a budget!

As much as this blog is all about living a great life on a budget, I can’t say I’ve really shared many money saving tips. Sure, I really don’t share much that isn’t an affordable item. But as far as getting the most bang for your buck? Not too much of that around here.

Well that’s changing right now.

I’ve been a long time admirer of J Crew, but only recently got into shopping there. It just always seemed too expensive for me. Not gonna lie, some things are, but there are so many ways to get great items at great prices.

Over the past year I’ve really gotten into shopping at J Crew and doing so on a budget. In fact, I don’t think I’ve paid over $40 for anything! J Crew can be more affordable, so let me teach you my ways!

This post contains affiliate links. So if you make a purchase using my link, I’ll receive a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Shop the sales

Okay maybe this one is obvious, but don’t buy anything full price. J Crew has sales ALL. THE. TIME.

A couple weekends before Christmas? Everything’s on sale. Random holidays like Columbus Day? Yep, you’ll find a deal.

And don’t worry if there’s not a holiday nearby. Stores want to make money, and people are more likely to buy stuff when it’s on sale. Therefore, sales are always popping up. Just check periodically and you’ll find something good.

Always check the Sale/Clearance section

I know, probably another obviously one. I used to bypass clearance sections because I hated digging through the jumble of clothes. But here’s where online shopping can be great. J Crew’s website has so many filters, so if you’re looking for a particular item, style, or color, you’ll be sure to find it!

If you’re worried about things being out of season or out of style, don’t! Many times current season items (for instance right now in January, sweaters) are already in the sale section. Many of J Crew’s items are classic pieces, which are always going to be in style.

Also if you need something like a swimsuit or clothes for a warm weather vacation in the winter, the clearance section is the way to go!

J Crew Rewards

I LOVE J CREW REWARDS. Alright, maybe I sound dramatic, but it really is a great program, and it’s totally free.

The first, and main, reason why I love J Crew Rewards is because you always get free shipping. If there’s one thing that annoys me about shopping, it’s paying for shipping.

You also earn a point for every dollar you spend (both at J Crew and Factory). After you earn 200 points you get $5 off of a purchase!

Finally there are some sales and additional discounts for Rewards members. I’ve seen where the sale is 40% off but Rewards members get 50%.

Of course you can also stack an online sale, use your Rewards points, and then get free shipping for major savings!

Basically J Crew Rewards is a win, win, win.

I guess I should quickly mention that I’m NOT being sponsored to say any of this. I just think the Rewards program is one of the best ways to save.

Don’t Forget J Crew Factory

I tend to shop at J Crew Factory more often than the regular J Crew store.

I really can’t say I’ve noticed much of a quality difference between J Crew and J Crew Factory. The main thing I think makes J Crew Factory clothing more affordable is that the items tend to be simpler.

Even though J Crew Factory is an “outlet” store, they still have a great website you can shop from anywhere. And like I kind of already mentioned, you can also use your J Crew Rewards at J Crew Factory too!

I’ve shared a few pieces from J Crew Factory here on the blog before.

Pink Scalloped Skirt from J Crew Factory

This skirt is a J Crew Factory favorite that I’ve shared here and here.

As you can see, shopping J Crew on a budget is totally possible! I hope you found this helpful, and if you score any great deals at J Crew be sure to let me know!

I didn’t realize J Crew carried earrings! The bows are super cute! And thanks for the tip on their rewards program. Some just aren’t worth the effort, but it sounds like this one is.
