Plaid always makes me think of Christmas time. It probably doesn’t hurt that some of the most common plaid motifs include red and green. A plaid outfit can be so fun for holiday photos or to wear while celebrating. Here is how to create a Christmas outfit with plaid.

How to wear plaid
First, let’s check out a way I’ve worn plaid for Christmas by looking at a previous Christmas Eve outfit.

My plaid top was a J Crew Factory find. I was able to find this top on sale a couple of years ago, but luckily plaid items are abundant this time of year. Plaid tops add an instant festive touch to any outfit and can be dressed up or down.
For bottoms with this Christmas outfit, I wore a pair of black ponte pants that I’ve had forever. Something like this is great for the holidays because it looks put together but feels like you’re wearing leggings. You also could mix causal and dressy and wear a pair of jeans, or grab a pair of pants in a fun plaid!
I love adding a little something extra with a hair accessory. This outfit included a pearl headband. This year, I’ve seen so many oversized bows and scrunchies. They’re such a fun addition to an outfit!

Another Plaid Outfit

To dress up a basic pair of jeans I added a brighter plaid top. Pointed toe flats and a pattern mixed polka dot bag dress up this otherwise casual outfit.

(If you are in St. Louis, or heading here for the holidays, this tree is in the Central West End.)
If you like to dress up a little more for the holidays, there are plenty of options for that. An all over plaid dress, or a plaid skirt with a sweater or blouse in a matching color is such a classic Christmas outfit style.
If you feel a bit intimidated by an all over plaid print for a top, pants or dress, try an accessory. A plaid scarf, headband, or pair of shoes gives a festive look while still keeping the outfit subtle.

I’ve rounded up several plaid items for you wardrobe. So many of them are currently on sale, and it seems will continue to be until Christmas!
