As a brand Elf cosmetics has really stepped things up over the past couple of years. They went from that really cheap brand that was just okay, to becoming one of the mostly highly regarded drugstore brands. I’ve been adding more of their products to my collection lately, including Elf’s Sheer Slick Lipsticks.
I sometimes use affiliate links on Thoroughly Contemporary. That means if you make a purchase through one of these links I make a small commission at no extra cost to you.
The Elf Sheer Slick Lipstick is one of Elf’s newer product launches. Elf describes these lipsticks as being “inspired by the summer days of biting into juicy, delicious fruit”. I love the idea of really fresh, I-just-ate-a-popsicle sort of lip look, so these sounded right up my alley.
As with everything from Elf, the Sheer Slick Lipsticks are super affordable. These lipsticks retail for five dollars each. These lipsticks are also cruelty-free and vegan, so you can feel good about wearing them.
I picked up three of the six shades: Dragon Fruit, a pinky red, Jam or Jelly, a berry tone, and Wild Peach, a peachy coral. The other shades include Grapefruit, Cherry Slush, and Orange.
From top to bottom: Dragon Fruit, Wild Peach, Jam or Jelly
The lipsticks go on creamy and are very comfortable on the lips. They feel almost balm like.
I do think these are great for summer as they give a wash of vibrant color. These lipsticks seem somewhere between a lipstick and a gloss. The color is sheer, but bright,
and gives a decent amount of shine.
Jam or Jelly, Dragon Fruit, Wild Peach
The main downside to these lipsticks is the staying power, which with such a shiny, creamy product, is to be expected. However, because the colors are brighter, they will leave behind a stain so you don’t have to reapply immediately.
My favorite shade of the lipsticks I have is Jam or Jelly, as I’m partial to berry shades, but all three of the colors are beautiful. I actually like to pick up the Cherry Slush shade too. I love a subtle bright red.
You can find Elf Sheer Slick Lipstick at Target.
