How to Wear Color – Subtle and Bold

How to wear color in a bold way

I’m a big fan of color. I actually just had a conversation with my mom about how although she knew my favorite colors as a child she didn’t really know what it was now. Although I think I’m a bit more attracted to certain colors (like aqua and mint green) I tend to like most colors. I love it in clothing, makeup, home decor, etc. Because of this, I thought it would be fun to start a series here all about wearing color. Let’s get into it!

How to wear color

Just do it.

Just wear it. If you want to wear color wear it.

Okay that’s not what you came here for. A lot of people get timid about wearing color, especially brights. It’s attention grabbing. You don’t have to start with a pastel rainbow cardigan; you can start with wearing color in more subtle ways.

Start small

If you’re a little nervous about head to toe color, start with an accessory or even your lipstick or nail polish. I think the easiest way to start with wearing color is through accessories and to me, the easiest accessory to work with is a bag or purse.

Wear color in a subtle way

The bag I have here is a light buttery yellow color. This is especially great if you’re shy about wearing color because it is so pale. It can easily work similarly to a cream or ivory. This one is from the Lauren Conrad line at Kohl’s. Lauren’s line has a lot of pastels and even some fun novelty bags if you’re into them!

Target has also been on point lately with tons of colorful bags. If you’re just starting to incorporate bright colors into your wardrobe places like this are good because they are affordable.

I’m also wearing a hot pink lip gloss in these photos. If you want to know more about it, you can read this post.

My earrings here are very subtle, but I think this is another area to start with wearing color. This purple pair from most recent post are perfect for spring and summer and adding color to your outfits!

Wearing Bold Color

Bold rainbow clothing is everywhere now, so if you’re ready it’s the perfect time to jump into color! This cardigan was affordable and the pastels are the best!

I also love pattern mixing so adding the pastel stripes with my polka dot dress made for an extra fun outfit!

Getting dressed should be fun! If you want to add in more color to your wardrobe, you should. Wear what you like, and you’ll always look great!
